South East Community Links is proud to partner with ICAN in an exciting new initiative aimed at building a strong, skilled, and sustainable First Nations financial counselling workforce across Australia.
Over the next three years, ICAN will work with four community services organisations including Winun Ngari (Derby, WA), HKTC (Darwin, NT), Anglicare NT (servicing regional and remote NT), and South East Community Links (Southeastern Melbourne, VIC) to provide training, mentorship, and professional development for First Nations financial counselling and capability staff. This initiative will be delivered through ICAN Learn, ensuring participants receive high-quality education and personal mentorship to help them thrive in their roles.
ICAN’s CEO, Aaron Davis, emphasised the importance of workforce development in regional and remote communities, highlighting ICAN’s longstanding commitment to supporting First Nations financial counselling through programs like the Indigenous Financial Counselling Mentorship Program.
Our CEO, Peter McNamara, said he was excited to expand opportunities for First Nations professionals.
“We have a lot of employment opportunities coming up in 2025, and we’d love to see them filled by people from the community.”
This partnership builds on our previous success with ICAN Learn’s Multi-Cultural Scholarship Program (2023-2024), which helped bring newly arrived migrants into the workforce. Now, we are extending this opportunity to First Nations individuals, ensuring more people have access to meaningful careers in financial counselling.
We look forward to working alongside ICAN and our fellow community partners to create a diverse and skilled workforce that reflects and supports the communities we serve.
