It’s International Day of the Girl and today we’re celebrating all the girls and young women in our programs.
We know that girls around the world still face barriers in achieving gender equality. Our programs seek to support girls and young women, with a focus on migrant and refugee youth, to realise their leadership potential, have their voices heard, and establish a sense of belonging in the community.
Some of our work includes:
- 200 women and girls engaged in our family violence prevention workshops in the past year
- The Inspired by You project worked with 74 young women to raise awareness of careers in STEAM
- Girls make up 70% of SECL’s Youth Leadership Group
Here’s a special video message from Shegofa Naseri who is on SECL’s Youth Leadership Group. She shared advice in celebration of the International Day of the Girl.
“I want to request to all the families to be appreciative of your daughter and allow them to represent themselves in society”, says Shegofa.
The Youth Leadership Group is funded as part of the Victorian Government’s Engage! Program.
