Here’s some fantastic news from the South East Community Links. Our giant poster displaying the Public Transport Pilot project was an absolute hit at the National Settlement Conference 2023!
This initiative, supported by the Victorian Government, was our contribution to understanding and overcoming the challenges multicultural communities face when it comes to public transport. We not only highlighted the issues but also proposed real solutions to make the journey easier and more comfortable for everyone. Our poster highlighted the need, engagement, outcomes and recommendations. The audience loved our use of illustrations on the poster.
Our efforts were recognised in a big way – winning the BEST Poster Award!
What makes this award extra special is our aim with the project, providing a roadmap for other service providers to improve inclusion and wellbeing of newly arrived multicultural community members. It’s all about working hand in hand to make an accessible and connected community.
Our team attends the National Settlement Conference, organised by the Settlement Council of Australia (SCOA), every year. In 2023, the conference welcomed 80 speakers and 450 attendees, from experts and thought leaders to engaged attendees. The conference aims to enhance Australia’s social infrastructure, ensuring every migrant and refugee has the opportunity to belong, flourish, and enjoy fulfilling lives in Australia.
As we celebrate our achievement at SECL, we’re reminded of what drives our work – fostering a sense of belonging and unity in our diverse community because ‘every person counts and every system should be fair’.
